Either the Formac or Apple screens are very good and the colour accuracy is high and the prices are now "reasonable", If colour accuracy is paramount then the best lcd screen on the market is the Eizo ColorEdge CG221 the downside is the price; £2,800! For my money, and it is more than adequate for imaging purposes,
the Apple Cinema Display 23" is superb and it can be bought for around the £500 mark

Hi, I looked into good quality LCD monitors recently and I ended up buying a EIZO FlexScan S1931 (4:3). It was an updated model that came out 2 days after I ordered it,so I had to wait 2 extra days.
I had a long chat with the people at Native Digital who sold LaCie, Eizo and other pro spec monitors and under £400 inc vat was what I wanted to spend so I was really pleased. Its only a 19" screen, I could not afford the 21",
Its excellent, quick, sleek and it only took a couple of days to get used to it over my lovely old CRT.

They have a good selection of w/s monitors as well,
I keep it calibrated with a Spyder and the results with adobe lightroom and photoshop are great.
Eizo have some stunning monitors but you pay for them. I'd recommend it, it is a great monitor. I will be upgrading to a HDR monitor when prices become sensible, but for now, this is the best I could afford and I'm really pleased with it.

I'm just buying a new computer now as have been using a laptop for a few years..my work has taken me in a different dirrection however and I don't need a laptop any more..I've actually opted to buy a CRT monitor due to all the negative feedback about flatscreens and LCD's, Is there still a lot of difference between the 2 or is the gap closing do you think?

Susan, there is a document here that was written by an independent testing company about Apple's LCD screens back in 2003... and the screens are even better now.

I work on 30" Cinema Displays at home and office...

(in the spirit of full disclosure: I currently work for Apple, but opinions expressed in this forum are my own, I do not represent the company I work for on this forum).

Hi There, Was in this quandry last year, did tons of research. and went the Eizo 24 flexscan route. it is an unbelievable monitor and out preforms Apple , Lacie and many others. if you are in UK Colorworx do it for £750 ish, good reliable helpful company. for these types of monitor you have to pay £600 plus if you want anything close to a CRT monitior.

Giles

Electric Shock

I did the second part of the Littlewoods pools shoot yesterday, got off to a great start, we hired this large studio in Battersea, London. I was quite happy setting up my lights, the studio manager pointed me in the direction of there extention leads.

I picked up this coiled extension lead, plugged it into the wall, like you do and thought great this will do the trick, so I walked over to one of my strobes holding the end of the extension lead when WALLOP!!! yep, one hell of an electric shock w… Continue

Guardian Rights Grab

Hi Folks,

This is the letter I have just sent to Chris Elliott at the Guardian. Now he won't care what I say, probably won't care if a score of us write. But if every single photographer reading this were to write, then GNM might just listen.

Just remember, selling rights to our work is what makes us Professional photographers. If our clients start eroding those rights further, along with that fact that there is simply less work around today, then more of us will find it impossible to make a l… Continue
