I haven't used them yet but the quality looks excellent for the price. I plan to use them for a wedding at the end of this month - client wants 3 large coffee table books!

Another one you might want to check out is Sim2000.

Hi Lisa

Following my last post I can now wholeheartedly vouch for Booked Images having used them several times with great results. The books look stunning - they're all beautifully hand-finished, use quality materials and the picture quality is absolutely superb. You get a personal service too - Nicole over there is a great help and very quick to respond to any queries. The slight drawback from my point of view is that the album design process is a bit laborious as you have to design each page in photoshop using their templates. Personally I'd prefer it if they had online design software but that's my only gripe. That said, they do offer a very affordable design service if you don't like the idea of designing the albums yourself.

So if you're looking for something classic, elegant and stylish and cater for a lot of upmarket weddings then I'd have no hesitation in recommending these guys.

Hope that helps.

The undisputed heavyweights of album and coffee table printing are:

Leather Craftsmen
Graphistudio
Queensberry

I'm just looking into an American company called www.mypublisher.com which does the coffee table books at a fraction of the UK cost..I've heard the quality is really good, am going to do a test run on something to check it out...watch this space Susan

I think you can add Vision Art to the list of "undisputed heavyweights".

They're pricey, but the quality is incredible.

Ooh.. yeah... forgot Vision Art!!! Good catch... for more general books there is a great little company out of San Francisco called Blurb I've seen several samples and they look great...

i've used a US company called Blurb (www.blurb.com). The prices are pretty reasonable depending on how large you want the book to be, how many pages, etc. The print and color quality is excellent, although the pages are a bit thin.

Hi Lisa,

I've used sim2000 for over a year now on several albums and despite their terrible name they make a very good product!

Also check out the Belissimo range by Loxley in Glasgow. Again, a good product again at a good price.

I stopped using Queensberry a couple of years ago. They do make a first class product, but its pricy and its real pain in the **** to send an album the other side of the world to be corrected when they print the clients name wrong, or make a similar bargan basement blunder.

Hope this helps,

MB

Pictobooks are the best, and with their new Bijou line its less than graphis and you get it ten days from upload, the faux leather are so real looking, Graphis does not care about clients, I would avoid them with all sanity.

You could try Asukabook, they are very good at what they do.

Electric Shock

I did the second part of the Littlewoods pools shoot yesterday, got off to a great start, we hired this large studio in Battersea, London. I was quite happy setting up my lights, the studio manager pointed me in the direction of there extention leads.

I picked up this coiled extension lead, plugged it into the wall, like you do and thought great this will do the trick, so I walked over to one of my strobes holding the end of the extension lead when WALLOP!!! yep, one hell of an electric shock w… Continue

Guardian Rights Grab

Hi Folks,

This is the letter I have just sent to Chris Elliott at the Guardian. Now he won't care what I say, probably won't care if a score of us write. But if every single photographer reading this were to write, then GNM might just listen.

Just remember, selling rights to our work is what makes us Professional photographers. If our clients start eroding those rights further, along with that fact that there is simply less work around today, then more of us will find it impossible to make a l… Continue
