Can anyone reccommend any online companies that offer password galleries where my clients can view and order prints directly..., that also don't take a huge commision... I currently use Photobox.co.uk (pro gallery), but it dosn't offer a passworded option for clients... many thanks..Lisa

Hi Lisa, I'm not quite sure what your set up is, whether you host your own site and domaine or not or whether you print your own prints etc. Have you considered doing it all yourself and maximise your profits. It's so easy - If you get a hosting package from the likes of network solutions (only about 9 dollars a month) which allows you to set up password galleries and folders of your own. All you have to do is make an interactive gallery, it's easily made from Adobe Lightroom, in fact it's completely automated all you have to do is choose a folder with the clients images in and it does the rest for you, it allows clients to order stuff on line directly from yourself from within the gallery. Only thing is, you then have to print and send the photographs.

hope this helps

Many thanks Ian, I have my own website already and am looking to add this function.. I found 1 company here in the the uk, www.everybodysmile.biz and they do a similar to the link you suggested.., I think I should probably do the prints my self to maximise profit however I will be living in France for the winter months and hoped to find someone who does all the prints and sends them to my clients for me.....

Hi I've been using a company called Imagicam who have been excellent with my folders and ordering..they have the password protection faciliity and credit card ordering, as well as easy FTP uploading of images and a good management area to keep track of what's going on. The only down side is that they charge 5% of your orders which goes towards credit card costs and their own pockets I suppose, but they do make the area look and feel exactly like your own website.. There may be a cheaper way to do it but this is pretty easy to do and hassle free for me..

I don't use online galleries for selling, but a number of my friends do and I've heard some good talk about this company. I've been told it's cheaper , in the long run, than similar services. And the client goes to your website to view their gallery instead of to another companies website. That way, when they send their friends and families the link to look at their gallery, the friends and family get a look at your website, which drives up hits on your website, thus increasing your rankings and lets them know where they can find you for themselves.

oops.......disregard this........I've just seen that you posted you're looking for a service that also does the printing and mails the images for you.......I don't believe this service does that.

Here's the link that goes with the above post. For some reason, when I try to post a link using the links feature, it doesn't show up?

Not sure whether this is still a live discussion but I use Online pictureproof - www.onlinepictureproof.com you can see the way I use this for my clients here

I find it useful both as an online set of gelleries, a way of getting punters to pay for pictures and as a quick way of getting pass word protected (when required) galleries up

Hi, Im planning on doing a trip across US starting L.A. all route 66 ending in Chicago and then to New York.
Any tips of things that I can find to shoot along the way ?
It can be anything, from sightseeing to a famous crazy guy in a town.

Electric Shock

I did the second part of the Littlewoods pools shoot yesterday, got off to a great start, we hired this large studio in Battersea, London. I was quite happy setting up my lights, the studio manager pointed me in the direction of there extention leads.

I picked up this coiled extension lead, plugged it into the wall, like you do and thought great this will do the trick, so I walked over to one of my strobes holding the end of the extension lead when WALLOP!!! yep, one hell of an electric shock w… Continue

Guardian Rights Grab

Hi Folks,

This is the letter I have just sent to Chris Elliott at the Guardian. Now he won't care what I say, probably won't care if a score of us write. But if every single photographer reading this were to write, then GNM might just listen.

Just remember, selling rights to our work is what makes us Professional photographers. If our clients start eroding those rights further, along with that fact that there is simply less work around today, then more of us will find it impossible to make a l… Continue
