Hi Ann

I think I know what's happening:

The forum works really simply in that, there is a tab called "Forum" which is where the "forum" lives and should be just the same as any other forum that you use. But what probably makes it a bit confusing is that within the individaul members pages called "my page" like were doing right now is just a way of sending notes to each other which is seperate from the forum, it's just another facilitie for us to use - so if you wanted to drop me or one of the people you invited to the site a message - you can do without it going on the main boards.

If for instance you just want to send Carolyn a message that your gonna be visiting her area and did she wanna hook up with you - then there really isn't much point in putting that on the board - so you would use this which is called the "comment board" that were using now, just to drop her a line.

Back to the forum:

The last 3 posts show up on the main/home page underneath the slide show-underneath the "latest from state of the art" just to show at a glance the last 3 posts. and that's really all there is to it.

The "Groups" is different tho and we need to work that one out. the idea of groups is good but maybe it just has to be another format, which I'm thinking of at the moment.

I hope this has helped to make it a bit more clear.

Please just ask if you have any other questions either here on the comment wall or by email or the forum if you want.

all the best

Ian

p.s. I didn't realise you had invited the other girls, - excellent, thanks for that. Keep up the good work.

Hi Ann

I'm glad you brought it up to be honest because I honestly never gave it a second thought for the forum, I suppose I'm maybe a bit close to it with trying to set the site up and get it going etc. It's good because from now on I'll think about answering individual questions in a different way, so thanks for that.

I'm looking for ideas for subjects for the notice board, i.e. for sale and wanted etc. so if you get a moment see if you can think of anything interesting that would be a notice board category. I thought about assistants - looking for work but not sure if that would work on a world wide notice board.

Also if you could let me know what you think of the "Groups" format whether it should be more like the forum than the present format.

Should this be on the forum :-) only joking.

Hi Ann, I thought I was just answering a question for a fellow photographer, I didn't realise it would be that interesting but now that you mention it, maybe it is and I'll take it to the forum.

All the best

Hi Ann

Welcome to the edge and thank you for joining.

The edge went live only a few days ago, so it's quite exciting that we now have 51 members.

Hopefully we will just keep growing and we can all make the edge somewhere great for all photographers to come and share.

Great to see you have started a blog, I hope everyone else starts to use the site, that's the reason we are here.

Please just make your self at home.

all the best

Ian

Road photos across USA

Hi, Im planning on doing a trip across US starting L.A. all route 66 ending in Chicago and then to New York.
Any tips of things that I can find to shoot along the way ?
It can be anything, from sightseeing to a famous crazy guy in a town.

Regards,

Diego

Electric Shock

I did the second part of the Littlewoods pools shoot yesterday, got off to a great start, we hired this large studio in Battersea, London. I was quite happy setting up my lights, the studio manager pointed me in the direction of there extention leads.

I picked up this coiled extension lead, plugged it into the wall, like you do and thought great this will do the trick, so I walked over to one of my strobes holding the end of the extension lead when WALLOP!!! yep, one hell of an electric shock w… Continue

Guardian Rights Grab

Hi Folks,

This is the letter I have just sent to Chris Elliott at the Guardian. Now he won't care what I say, probably won't care if a score of us write. But if every single photographer reading this were to write, then GNM might just listen.

Just remember, selling rights to our work is what makes us Professional photographers. If our clients start eroding those rights further, along with that fact that there is simply less work around today, then more of us will find it impossible to make a l… Continue
